Dear readers, at least the few of you who are real. Sorry for the website hacking problems last week. I lost 4 days of what could have been editing time and/or book reviewing time. During that period, I hardly slept. As each new admin popped up, I demoted him, her, or the bot to a subscriber. I also changed emails and passwords to something they could never guess. After Arvixe and Wordfence solved my site vulnernabilities and blocked the hacker ips, I realized keeping the new users wouldn’t do any good if they were bots. Bots don’t have consciences, so reasoning with them couldn’t change them. I want real people as subscribers anyway. so rather than trying to match every user with the bad guys’ ips, I deleted everyone I don’t know.
If you try to log in using a nonexistent ID, you’ll get locked out and your ip will be blocked. So it’s better not to try and log in, just register again. In case you do get locked out, please be patient and register again when the lock expires or when your isp assigns you another, both usually within a few days. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but I think it’s better to start clean.
This is a book blog. Here, more than anywhere else, having real readers is the only real option. Reading books used to be just my favorite hobby, but for the last couple of years it’s also been my livelihood. Now, reading books and reviewing them keeps my editing business afloat.
Thanks for understanding.
