New Year, New Host, Recovered–Almost

Hi, all, it’s Sher today to wish everyone a belated happy New Year! Sorry I couldn’t post at the time. My blog disappeared on 30 Dec and came back for only a few days on 5 Jan before it was hacked again. It was hacked multiple times last year and this through the Arvixe servers, and customer service is like a visit to he….you know where.

Instead of reading and reviewing books over the holidays, I was desperately trying to get Arvixe to help. Things got so bad I finally left a review at If you want to know the details, please read them there.

Turns out I’m not the only one upset with Arvixe. As of this writing, the positive reviews are pretty old. Others noticed their customer service decline to the current level: terrible. I’m not worried about getting in trouble for publicizing their awful server security either. I have a long trail of written documentation including an admission from the first hacker in December that he attacked the server, not my blog. I contacted him via Facebook.

I personally deleted thousands upon thousands of spam links after I found a Google webmaster email notice of spam redirects to foreign merchants. Guess where I found the spam notice. It was in my spam folder on gmail–Google’s own email service. Go figure.

In addition, I had to hire a security firm to clean the mess or no host will transfer my files. Whatever time I can get online every day, I’m checking progress through my cpanel (control panel for the server), so posting may be a bit erratic for a month or so. I’ll post about how the cleaning went after it’s done. For now, all I can say is that I see a bunch of files labeled “suspected” on the server. After my files are clean, I’ll be on another host I already chose after days of careful comparisons. But that’s another post for another day.
