First, let me start with a cover reveal. Last post, I put up a sketch of Lionel, but now, here is the final cover.
I am getting pretty excited as my book launch approaches. I have never done a full fledged launch and I have to admit that I am learning a lot and enjoying it immensely. In case you missed my earlier post, I am launching Lionel’s Christmas Adventure: Lionel Learns the True Meaning of Christmas on Tuesday November 13th, coinciding with a blog tour. The complete tour schedule can be seen here. It is the third book in the Lionel’s Grand Adventure series.
Lionel Learns the True Meaning of Christmas follows Lionel through the Christmas season. If you’ve read Lionel before, you can imagine what kind of things might happen to him. Lionel has a lot of great things going on his life. He has Skip, his new best friend, school is out, and Christmas is right around the corner. The problem is Lionel desperately wants a sled, not just any sled either. He wants the new Turbo 5000, but it doesn’t look promising for Lionel. He asked his mom for one and she couldn’t stop laughing, probably not a great sign.
As you might imagine, Lionel uses his magical Three-Toed-Potbellied Walbaun foot to wish for what he wants and the results are…Well, you have to wait and read the book to see. Make sure to pick it up on Tuesday November 13th to read about Lionel and the usual cast of characters, plus a few surprises.
I had a great time writing this book and I hope that you, the reader, have fun reading it. I struggled a bit with what Lionel might want for Christmas, but settled on a sled. Lionel’s Christmas Adventure is set in the late 1960’s and I thought that a sled would have been high on many a young boys Christmas lists back then. I also tried to make the book appeal to girls as well as boys this time. I think that girls will enjoy Lionel, but to date, it has certainly been more of a “boy” series. Lionel is loads of fun to write. He is that loveable loser that everyone has known or can relate to. Often, he has the “prize” in his sights, but his big heart usually causes him to miss it. I hope you enjoy reading about Lionel as much as I have enjoyed writing about him.
Now here is the new trailer for the book also. This is the first time I’ve ever worked on a trailer, and I found it to be quite an enjoyable experience thanks in large part to Laura at LLPix Photography.
I would like to thank my wonderful and supportive blog parter Sher. Without her, I don’t think Lionel’s Christmas Adventure would have been ready for this holiday season, and I know it would not have been as good. Thanks for everything, Sher! Thanks everyone for stopping by and be sure to stop back for the launch of Lionel’s Christmas Adventure. I am planning on giving away Amazon gift cards for you to use this holiday season and Lionel and I will be making a tour through the blogosphere. For a list of dates click here. Be sure to enter the Rafflecopter below to enter to win a $25 Amazon gift card and a 3-pack of the Lionel’s Grand Adventure ebooks. Please leave a comment telling us, in honor of Lionel, what your favorite Christmas present ever was. a Rafflecopter giveaway
I LOVE the book trailer…just watching it made me almost wish for snow (almost)! The music was great and the graphics were too. I really enjoy the character of Lionel and can’t wait to see how his Christmas turns out!
My favorite Christmas present was my Kermit the Frog telephone. After being told I was NOT allowed to get it because of its cost, my grandfather bought it for me anyway. I still have it today and when the electricity goes out, it is the only phone in the house that doesn’t run on batteries or electric.
Thanks for the kind words Lisa! Hopefully it made you feel a bit better on…the day after… Kermit the Frog telephone, how cool! I don’t remember that one. I think mine was the Fort Apache. A really cool fort that you could play with your plastic figures in. Was that the same grandfather your book is about? He sounds really special:) Amazing that the phone is more reliable than any modern one, huh? Thanks for stopping by. Have a great night.

I got a Popple (spelling) one year. My sister and both got them and we had so much fun for years with those things.
Lim,
Thanks for stopping by. I’m not familiar with a Popple. I’m going to have to check that out. The only spelling game I’ve played is Boggle and I am not very good. Have a great night.

Love the book trailer! My favorite christmas gift was this year that my parents got me about 20 puzzles. I went through a phase where I was OBSESSED with puzzles and when I finished them all we sprayed them with glue and hung them up. It was amazing!
I’m entering for the gift card to help out my charity event to get books to impoverished children (:
Lili,
Thanks for the kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed the trailer. My wife still loves puzzles. I can remember looking for really cool puzzles and then covering them in glue to hang on the wall as well. How fun! I had forgotten about that. Thanks for sharing your memory. Good luck in the giveaway, it’d be great to be able to give it to such a worthy cause.

My favorite Christmas…when I was 7 we went to my grandmother’s home for Christmas dinner. When we returned home, there were gifts under the tree. I just knew there had to be a Santa because my parents were with me the entire evening and couldn’t have placed the gifts there. Years later, I discovered that my parents made arrangements with our neighbor to play Santa. It was a wonderful Christmas memory.
Hi Shar! What a great memory. Thanks for sharing. I remember seeing the runner of Santa’s sleigh through my window as a boy. I was excited, but scared since I was supposed to be asleep. It wasn’t until years later that I realized the “sleigh runner” was actually the shadow of the metal railing on the porch. It is great to be so young and innocent and the magic of Santa is sooo great. Thanks for stopping by & good luck.

I was pretty happy to get a Scott Hannan San Jose Sharks jersey six years ago.
eai(at)stanfordalumni(dot)org
Hockey jersey’s are always a very cool gift! Thanks for stopping by.
Paul R. Hewlett
Love the cover and trailer! Honestly, every Christmas, my best present is being able to spend it with my family. We all gather over the holidays and spend some very fun times together. You should see the Christmas tree with 13 peoples gifts over flowing under it.
Thanks Crystal! How was the company? Spending Christmas with your family is very special. I don’t have a very big family and as we’ve all grown up we’ve become spread out making it difficult to get together. I can really appreciate how special that is since we can’t do it often. That must be quite a sight, all those presents!
Paul R. Hewlett
Great Job, Paul, as always. Love your books and will get one for each of my grandchildren.
Thanks Roy! Great to see you here. I appreciate the kind words.
Paul R. Hewlett
What a great trailer! I loved the zippy Christmas music and the great graphics. I’m not a huge fan of book trailers but yours was great, probably the best I’ve seen.
Thank you Suzanne.
I’ve never done a trailer before and wasn’t sure about doing one, but Laura & Sher were great helps in the process and I couldn’t be more pleased with the result. I appreciate your kind words.
Paul R. Hewlett
The cover is adorable and the trailer is one of the best I’ve seen. Great job Paul and much success! Best gift? I can’t remember one in particular because my parents, I mean Santa, would always hide the present we wanted most that year and have us go get a screwdriver or something and, just when our hopes might be dashed, we’d find that special gift in the garage or elsewhere in the house. Santa had a warped sense of humor in my house. :0)
Hi Donna!
Thanks for the compliments, I really appreciate it. So, if I understand Christmas at your house, you open all your gifts and you would be missing the one you asked for and wanted most. Then at some point your parents would ask you to go get them a screwdriver (or something of that nature) and lo and behold there would be the gift! I have to smile, it sounds tough, but I can only imagine your faces when you found that gift. It had to be that much more special. What a great story! Thank you for sharing.
Paul R. Hewlett
To tell the truth, I’ve never received anything for Christmas that I really liked, except when I was about 10 and me and my sister got Barbie dolls that we really wanted:) Now I prefer choosing gifts for my family than receiving them.
Dovile,
Thanks for stopping by. I’m sorry to hear that, but Barbie’s sound like great gifts. I prefer giving gifts (especially to the little ones) rather than getting them now too. Good luck in the giveaway, I hope to see you back here again soon.

My favorite gift ever was in the 1980’s when Cabbage Patch Kids came out. My mother didn’t have much money and she surprised me with one that year. I can still remember what the doll looked like and even her outfit. It really meant a lot to me.
Thanks for the great giveaway and being a part of this hop. A huge congratulations on your release and launch of Lionel’s Christmas Adventure. I will have to pick up a copy for my niece for Christmas. I am definitely hoping to instill my love of reading onto her by whatever means necessary. 🙂
Best wishes,
Marlena

My favorite gift ever was my dog! My husband took me to the pet store and had me choose a puppy. I found an adorable little fox terrier who is cuddling up on my legs as I type this 🙂
Hi Tiffany!
What a great gift! As a dog lover myself I’m not sure that I’ll read of any gift topping that one:) What is his/her name? Give him/her a scratch behind the ears for me. Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope to see you back here again soon.

Hmmm…I don’t really have a favorite Christmas gift…I love spending the time with family…This year I already got my gift 🙂 I had a son two months ago so it will be good to see how he reacts to the lights this year and of course next year when he is a little older 🙂
I remember one Christmas my brother gave me a TV (I’d been without one for a year or so at that time) and I cried like a itty-bitty baby. I still have the tv too 😀
Thank you for such an awesome giveaway opportunity!
Cheers and Happy Holidays!

I didn’t have many Christmases after I turned 7, and I don’t really remember the ones before then, so I don’t have a favorite gift. However, when I was 7, I remember getting one of those dolls that is made to look like you. That was pretty cool at the time.
Hi Kayley,
Thanks for sharing your story. I vaguely remember those dolls, how big were they? I’m thinking of one that is medium size, might not be the same thing. It’s been awhile since I had to think of dolls, my daughter is 19 ans she liked American Girl dolls.
Paul R. Hewlett
My favorite Christmas gift ever was when my husband put together his own scrapbook he titled “Our Journey” (using my supplies… his first time!) and the last photograph was of the Christmas tree. Under the photo it said “All Wrapped Up For You…..” It took me a minute, but I figured out that the tree was the wrapping! So I got up and looked all through the tree, and hanging on the tree was a beautiful journey diamond necklace! It was so romantic and so perfect 🙂
Thank you for a great giveaway! 🙂

That is a wonderful story. I take it you enjoy scrap-booking? My only venture into scrap-booking was when my beloved Chicago White Sox won the World Series. That is such a romantic story, your husband is going to be hard pressed to top that one. You’re welcome and good luck!

Great giveaway! thanks for the chance to win! My best Christmas gift ever was my first digital camera!
Hi Erika! You’re welcome & good luck. I was just talking about how great digital camera’s are. In the old days we had to buy film, flash bulbs, and even pay to have pictures developed, even if the didn’t turn out. That’s why I love digital cameras. If the picture’s no good, just delete. Much easier and more convenient and better. Thanks for sharing.

The best Christmas gift I ever got was from my niece. The previous Christmas (when she was 5) I got her a large drawing tablet and she filled it up with her artworks and little “poems” and gave it back to me the next Christmas. I LOVE it! She’s 22 now and I still bring it out to look at it and remember her early years.

My favorite Christmas gift was received when I was about 7 years old. It was a metal set of kid sized kitchen appliances, refrigerator, stove & sink. The sink even had some kind of reservoir that made it so you could get water out of the faucet. My 4 yr old sister & I played with them for hours.

Hi Kristen,
What a great gift. I never knew anyone that got a pet, but there have been a lot of stories here about them. I wish I would have. Thanks for sharing and I am very happy for that cat to have gone to a loving home.

Probably my Ipod Touch or my Kindle Fire 🙂
Hi Tiffany,
That’s a tough choice, both such great gifts. Thanks for stopping by & sharing.

One of my favorites is a few years ago we got a new kitty!
Thank you for the great giveaway!
The pets are starting to take over. My informal count lists, pets, babies, and Kindle Fires as the front runners. There’s still time for any one of them, or an unknown, to pull away. Thanks for sharing.

My puppy! 🙂
Hi Caitlin,
I’m marking another one for pets. I think pets, as a gift, are in the lead. As a HUGE dog lover, I am so happy for you to get a puppy & for the puppy to go to a loving home. Thanks for sharing.

My daughter she came the day before she is the best present ever!!!
Hi Krista,
Well, I’m putting another one in the Christmas babies column. I think pets and children are in a tie. Still most of the day left! Thanks for sharing and I’m so happy that you get to celebrate your little bundle of joy’s birthday along with Christmas every year. What a great time of year.

Either my Rub-a-dub dolly or a nurses kit I got when I was 5.
Hi Tracy,
Those both sound like great gifts. Thanks for stopping by & sharing.

Most of my favorite things have come on birthdays, but I think the best Christmas present was a huge doll when I was about 8 that I was sure I wasn’t going to get.

I remember getting a small record player back when I was younger, it was made out of hard plastic. It was perfect to escape into my music that my parents couldn’t stand, ironically that’s now me playing that role. I guess that’s how things turn out in the long run before we even know it.

Hi Becky,
I loved playing records. Even as recently as the early 90’s when I was in the Air Force I would search the local shops for used records. I still had a record player and found some great deals. It is funny how the tables turn as we grow up and have children of our own isn’t it? Thanks for sharing.

The best gift I get is from my daughters who give me a craft that they make for me 🙂
