Hi, it’s Sher today with the Insecure Writers Support Group., thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh. Sorry if I’m slow to reply. Once again I’m at the doctor because I’m still throwing up after 2 failed stomach opening expansions. Turns out my food sits at the bottom of my esophagus and drips into my stomach slowly, but not before I upchuck most of it. But while I’m not having fun, I wanted to promote a series I think fits the writing insecurity bill combined with loads of scary fun for teens and adults, the Jack Templar Monster Hunter books.
What does Jack Templar have to do with writing insecurities, you ask? Well, writers need an audience to sell books, and there’s no tougher sell than to tween and teen boys. I know from experience that most are too busy with sports or video games to read much even if they wanted to. Why would any writer put him or herself through the torture of trying to capture such a recalcitrant group? It seems like failure waiting to happen. Still, I tried because I wanted my own sons to learn to love reading because I got hooked on reading in grade school. And I happen to know that Jack Templar started as a means to get author Jeff Gunhus’s own sons to read. The difference between us is that Jeff never got sidetracked from his goal or discouraged enough to quit.
More important, he had the right formula to hook reluctant readers. Monsters and action. Lots of both. So even though I’m not currently writing my own books for reluctant readers, I’m editing for Jeff and having great fun in my imagination at a time when real life is tough. My writing insecurities are on the wane thanks to witnessing Jeff’s triumphs. So what if I’m basking in someone else’s glory? It still feels good. Best of all, here’s the latest installment with a giveaway!

Jeff Gunhus is the author of the Amazon bestselling supernatural thriller, Night Chill, and the Middle Grade/YA series, The Templar Chronicles. The first book of the series, Jack Templar Monster Hunter, was written in an effort to get his reluctant reader eleven-year old son excited about reading. It worked and a new series was born. His book Reaching Your Reluctant Reader has helped hundreds of parents create avid readers. Killer Within is his second novel for adults. As a father of five, he and his wife Nicole spend most of their time chasing kids and taking advantage of living in the great state of Maryland. In rare moments of quiet, he can be found in the back of the City Dock Cafe in Annapolis working on his next novel. If you see him there, sit down and have a cup of coffee with him. You just might end up in his next novel.
