Blog Tour Signups and SCBWI Writer’s Conference.

Sher A. Hart here. First, I’m inviting bloggers or authors interested in gaining publicity to secure a FREE spot on a Rafflecopter giveaway for an Amazon gift card. What do you have to do? Easy, take part in author Paul R. Hewlett’s Blog Tour for Lionel’s Christmas Adventure chapter book. Please go to this post for more info and to sign up. His books are great fun! You and your children, grandchildren, friends’ children, students, etc. will love how Lionel’s magical Three-toed Pot-bellied Walbaun foot teaches him to become a better person via some wild misadventures. The picture below is the first in the series, and you can click on it to see the great reviews on Amazon.  If you live by the Golden Rule, you want to be a part of this blog tour, either by posting or by entering to win a set of all 3 Lionel books along with the gift card.

Now for what I’m doing to help my own book get published. Yes, still rewriting with help from a wonderful SCBWI critique group I started this spring. If all goes well, today I’m at Wik’ 12, the Southern Breeze regional SCBWI conference in Birmingham. Birmingham and Atlanta, locations for Southern Breeze chapter’s fall and spring conferences, are both much closer than Orlando and Miami where my actual SCBWI regional events are held. That’s what I get for living in Florida’s panhandle. I feel a bit like a panhandler always asking Southern Breeze if they’ll adopt me.

I wish I could be four places at once with Saturday workshop choices like these and speakers like these. Who wouldn’t want to attend a workshop presented by Marietta Zacker of the Nancy Galtt Literary Agency. They represent Rick Riordan!!!

And Kevin Lewis, author/illustrator and executive editor at Disney/Hyperion, is giving an introduction to Disney Publishing. This will be a Mickey Mouse workshop in a good way!

Writing humor for kids and teens, by Leila Sales, associate editor at Viking Children’s Books, fills two time slots. Well, people like to laugh. Maybe she can help me laugh all the way to the bank.

Oh, no! My schedule is filled. I will probably corner a couple of speakers to ask for handouts. More begging, but oh, well. It’s all in a good cause–getting published.

Thanks for visiting and please leave a comment. I’d love to find out whether you’re a member of SCBWI and hear about your reading and writing plans. You know, every writer should be a reader. And sometimes, reading enough books turns readers into writers. It worked for me! With that in mind, please come back on 23 October for the Spooktacular Book Giveaway Hop. See you then!

  1. I’m so jealous! I wish I could have gone to Southern Breeze with you. Well, maybe next year! And I can’t wait to hear all about it.

  2. Thanks, Suzanne! I’m glad I went even though I was disappointed to find out that even at conferences, Disney won’t take unagented submissions. But otherwise, I was happy to meet new people and learn new things. I even won a doorprize: The Writing and Critique Group Survival Guide, LOL!
