Moon Mail and Star Kisses by Amanda Salisbury
In Moon Mail and Star Kisses, a loving adult and child must be separated for a little while. The adult promises the child to send greetings and kisses through the night sky, shared no matter the distance of place or time apart. The moon, the stars, and a person’s love are bright and constant even when they cannot be seen.
Amanda Salisbury lives on the red planet of Oklahoma. All her best stories are sifted through the screens of her education and experience in history, law, finance, and mothering. She lives with her husband and boys in a lair, a classroom, or a castle, depending on the moment.
Book Review
First off, I am very picky with rhyming picture books. Rhythms and rhymes have to be right on for me to enjoy them. This one lived up to my expectations in all the rhyming and rhythms. It flowed well, but I thought some of the wording may be difficult for young children to understand. It wasn’t bad, but it was noteworthy.
The pictures were very artistic but easy enough for my 2 year old to see what was in the pictures and point things out like a house or star. I had another 2-year-old and a 4-year-old with me when I read the book and the 4-year-old asked to read it a couple more times, but the 2-year-olds thought once was enough, true to 2-year-old attention spans.
My only issue with the book was that the words were hard to read sometimes because they were in spiral or circular patterns sometimes. It was a cute idea, but with the book turned away from me toward the children for their viewing pleasure it made it very difficult to read the words that were swirled all over the page. Other than that, the book was very cute and I loved the subject of making people feel closer to eachother even though they are far away from eachother. Very nice.
