IWSG: Meet New Reviewer, Kara

Hi, it’s Sher today, and I’m excited to post for the Insecure Writers Support Group. Thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh for starting the IWSG and keeping us together.

Wonder why I’m excited? Last year was a disaster until November when I found Krista (in the grocery store!) to help me review books. Her first task was posting old review requests on our review queue page, and she’s made a nice dent in that pile. Then in December I found another book lover on Twitter, Kara. Please read about her below. She’s already taken two books from the review queue, so if you enter your book, maybe she can review it too!

Hi everyone, my name is Kara and I just joined Sher A Hart as a contributor. I am so happy to be here and to help authors out by reviewing books. I am 31 years old and live in Texas. I have lived most of my life in Texas, and a few years in Arkansas.

I have loved reading since I was very young. In fact I was the only one asking the librarian in school “How many books can we have?” when other students did not even want to check one book out. I also loved when our teacher would read a book to us.

I love reading all genres. I typically do not read cookbooks or books about finances. One makes me hungry, the other makes me feel broke! Despite growing older, I still love books of all ages. It is fun to feel like a kid again! When I read I often wonder if I would have liked the book when I was younger, and what age I could have read it at.

I have been using computers since age 5, which is no feat for children today, but it was a big deal in 1988. Since I have been on a computer so much, I have always noticed typos in books very easily, even in the newspaper. I did audits for a company for a while, and I am pretty sure no one liked me. I found several errors every day.

I hope I can help authors by being a loyal reviewer. Thanks for having me!

It’s Sher again. How about you? Success or insecurity this month? Do tell!

  1. Finding people to help with projects is wonderful. Way to go! ANd welcome, Kara! 🙂

  2. One of the most powerful marketing tools for an author is book reviews. Thank you for taking on such this all-important task!
    Happy New Year.

  3. Glad to meet you Kara. Sher is keeping herself plenty busy with her editing business, so she could always use help in keeping up with the reviews. Looking forward to your reviews.

  4. What luck for you Sher, and Kara! I’m sure you’ll make a great team. Thanks for sharing… and for commenting on my blog. Happy New Year!

  5. Nice to meet you Kara! So great to hear you’re finding so many wondeful contributors!
