So what’s my insecurity this month? As usual, time. We sold our house and moved in October, and in all the hubbub, I didn’t get a stitch of writing done. Since hubby and I squeezed ourselves and all our belongings (that is the things that didn’t sell at our humongous garage sale) into a small rental house while waiting to purchase the home where we’ll live the rest of our lives, November doesn’t look much more promising for writing. Therefore I can’t offer any advice on time management.
But I do have something to offer in the way of helping other writers–reading. You know, that activity every writer is supposed to do but some don’t. Well, I love reading and always have, but perhaps those who don’t love reading would do it more with a free Kindle. As a little explanation, my first Kindle is what started me taking notes of errors I find in books, mostly new releases I read to review. And since I started sending the notes to the authors, those long lists have helped me appreciate the enormous amount of effort it takes to make a book error free–like almost impossible for a single proofreader. But maybe if you and other writers read the same book and send your error notes too, it won’t be so impossible to make everyone’s books error free. Writers should help other writers, right?
YES!
And just in case you didn’t know, even Orson Scott Card rewrote Ender’s Game. Nowadays, it isn’t that hard to send the corrections to Amazon, for example, and get them to notify previous customers. So here’s your chance to win your own Kindle, take notes, and send them to each author whose books you read! You would do that to help another author. Yes, of course you would. And if you do, there goes one more insecurity, the fear that errors will negatively affect book reviews. Poof!

Time. Such a precious commodity. I usually have little time to write, but I try to make free moments to read. Great idea to send a list of errors I find to the authors. 🙂
I love reading. I was surprised to find out a few authors don’t care, but most do.
Thanks for stopping by!
Reading is so important! You’ve definitely got that right. Moving is tough. I wish you every happiness in your new home.
Thanks for the well-wishes, M. J.. I’ll take all the sympathy I can get on the move. Reading helps me keep my sanity.
My publisher was able to fix an error in my first book – I really appreciated that.
Hope everything goes well with the move
Thanks, Alex. One move down and another to go whenever we find a house that fits our needs. Two offers, no house yet. Maybe three will be the charm.
I did not know about Ender’s game. I only purchased the ebook about a month ago. Glad to know it’s been updated. Of course, I just saw the movie tonight and found out about the surprise twist at the end. So even though I’m 62% of the way through the book, I’m not sure I’ll be finishing it any time soon.
Can’t wait until you get settled in your new house. I’m waiting to see the next chapter of your story.
I don’t have the new version of Ender’s Game, and I’m waiting to find time to see the movie. I can’t really settle in this little rental we’re in, so I’m really looking forward to getting into a house where I can unpack everything. Two offers down and both fell through. Maybe the third offer will be the charm. Now I’m going to have to think about what chapter I sent you last and what’s next.
