Hello again everyone, Paul here today with some very exciting news. My friend and illustrator Stacey Byer has been celebrating the launch of her 1st illustrated book. Before I continue, I have to share a story about Stacey when I first met her. I was looking for someone to do some illustrations for my Lionel’s Grand Adventure series. The only problem was that I wanted to keep the cover which means the illustrator that took on the project would be saddled with that image of Lionel and have their creativity a bit stifled (this issue will make a great blog post whenever I decide to write it). I contacted Stacey. I had seen her work and was in love with it. I caught her right in the middle of working one of her exhibitions and she still took the time to respond. She responded that she felt her style was so different from the style of the cover art that she would not be able to recreate that image style.
I can tell you one thing; she made me a loyal fan and follower from that moment on. I cannot tell you how nice it is to have someone be so upfront and honest. Many would have agreed and worried about the style differences later, but not Stacey. She is a stand-up person and a very talented artist, which is why we are here today. I apologize for the long winded introduction, but I thought it was important to illustrate what a great person Stacey Byer is, and-as you will see-a great illustrator.
Fun, Fun, One Crab On the Run was released in Grenada (Stacey is from Grenada) on 30 November at the National Museum and was sold out (150 books) in half an hour! There was a wonderful presentation about the importance or reading, Stacey made Fun Crab stickers and coloring pages for the kiddies who attended and had an exhibit on the illustration process and some samples from her portfolio. Some more GREAT news includes the fact that another 150 books were sponsored by Fun Crab patrons (corporate sponsors) to be donated to Grenada’s pre-primary and primary schools. Did I mention what a great person Stacey Byer is? Wow! What a launch party. Think of all those children that now have a great book to enjoy and learn from.
Here’s the Amazon blurb: From best-selling author Mario Picayo comes this beautiful and delightful counting book. Follow the playful characters as they explore, swim, fly, and blossom, while simple rhymes connect the numbers on their journey from one to ten. Vibrant color illustrations inspired by real animals and plants add an extra educational element. A chart at the end of the book lets the reader know the name of each animal and plant, and turns the book into a find it game! A perfect way to introduce children to numbers.
Thanks everyone for stopping by and I hope you pick up Stacey’s book today. I wanted to let you all know that in the spirit of the holidays I am offering Lionel and the Golden Rule (the e book) FREE today only. Here’s the link to head on over to Amazon to download. Merry Christmas everyone!
